How did he manage that?
The only bladed strimmers I've come across have a pole too long for the blade to meet your toes while you are holding it, and a 'dead man's handle' that stops the blade if you let go.

My director's brother removed two and a half toes with a bladed strimmer last Sunday. Spent 48 hours in hospital and needed an operation.

He was wearing sandals

Well, if he must have insisted on wearing socks with sandals.... Seriously though I hope he recovers soon.


Now, where did I put those steel toecap boots....

No idea how he did it. My director described it as a strimmer so I guess it's correct. He's a very wealthy man and may have bought a piece of equipment that should only be in the hands of a professional.

Just goes to show how dangerous gardening and other power tools can be.
