well Friday and did 'there and back' (9miles e/w) with no great shakes - slightly hairy cos I cross the A3 and an M25 junction.

The traffic bothered me less than I thought it would, years on commuting on a motorbike got me used to that. same as an m/c 70% don't notice you 25% are pretty good and 5% 4x4/bmw/audi/mondeo/van driving kn0b ends are out to get you.

so to the question: how mainly daily commuters also go out at the weekend for 'fun'? I think I'd be too shagged by the w/e to get back on a bike.

I do go out on my bike for fun at the weekends if i haven`t got anything else planned, I commuter every day which is around 8 miles a day. On Tuesday evening I join my works BUG cycle ride as well. Since cycling everyday I find that my stamina has improved so thatI am able to do these things.

there is that and also the feeling that you've done your miles and have nothing left to prove

that said, an event type ride is hugely enjoyable, the FNRttC and the Dun Run a couple of weeks time are dead cool, a chance to benfit from the riding you do commuting

I currently only commute 4 days a week by bike. my commute is 13.2 Miles each way.
and i cycle nearly every weekend as well, I have several reasons for this, one because i find cycling fun, and i get a different route in, see different things, and have different hills to climb.

Commuting daily is a good way to build fitness, so you can really enjoy the weekend rides, and aren't a slobbering mess when climbing big hills.

I think I commute by bike because I like cycling. Cycling's always seemed to be the best way to get around for 90% of the time...
I certainly take any opportunity to ride for pleasure, but can't ever imagine choosing to commute by any other mode of transport.

I cycle commute because its faster than any other means available to me (I don't own a helicopter). 16.7 miles either way, SE London to NW London. Lots of traffic. Calms me down.

I cycle at the weekends if I get a chance. Different experience. Commuting time is back brain time. Keep fore brain occupied dodging motons. Stops me worrying about work.

Weekend is rhythmic. Straight roads. Let the fore brain steer when the GPS bleeps. Back brain can idle through the week's challenges.

Good to have some non-utilitarian rides and the CC crowd are a friendly lot.

Check out the rides thread and join us! Cycling in a group is somehow less tiring.

when I get to the stage of not embarrassing myself, I'll certainly do that.

Cycle commute 5 days a week anything between 32 and 40 miles round trip.
Aslo out most saturdays 50-80 miles.. sundays usually a day off for some heavy metal gardening but if I am up early enough will bugger off out for a 20-30 miler. Looking at hitting a 1000 miles on cyclogs this month...

reason being... I ferkin love cycling...

I dont seem to get time, with a house, cars, garden and three kids I dont have loads of time to go of cycling at the weekend as well, trying to start to take the kids but they need new bikes really, plus they have the road sense of a blind Spaniel.

Why not, you soon get fit enough to far longer distances at w/e and you get to go different places. Of course it helps if you have some fun interested places to go cycle...

I would love to go out at the weekend

Unfortunatly the wife works so i have a toddler to look after and all the jobs round the house , as the wife has a dust allergy and has to take medication for hormone related tiredness i do not get much opportunity even if i wanted too .

I wouldn't worry too much about that. I have been on a couple of these rides and managed okay. I only recall embarrassing myself once... A long hill, Crystal Palace :biggrin:

Come along to one!
