My first motorist rage

Today I got my first bit of rage/abuse from a motorist, been 2 weeks since I started cycling and nothing up until today. I was cycling and there too many drains/pot holes down this stretch so was over a bit more then normal, I dont ride in the gutter it's dangerous. Anyway amitsubishi l200 went past really close and the overweight passenger said "your taking up the whole road" in a raged voice, kinder ironic seeing the size of what he was driving!.




Anyway bring it on!, downhill from now on lol.




Btw it always seems to be l200 drivers that dont give me room, anyone else notice that?, are there mirrors wonky or do they lack space awareness?.

Not very nice But keep in mind all the hundreds and hundreds of other cars that have overtaken you with no hassel until you met this peanut.

I think we get that one a lot. A relative was saying that she didn't think cycles should be allowed on most of the roads because the roads aren't wide enough. I do think I actually heard a penny drop when I mentioned that my bike is less than 2 feet wide and asked her how wide her car is.

i just dont get it... i'd far rather have 50 cycles in front of me rather than 50 cars when i'm driving to work!

Ah, you have to enter their limited little world-view. If the road is barely wide enough for a car, then it certainly isn't wide enough for a car and a bicycle. I think this is how the majority of non-cyclists see it; they can't even begin to imagine taking the car out of the scene. (Remember also: bicycle = slow = delay; car = fast = no delay.)

The one I really feel pity for are the drivers of Land Rovers without tow hitches. A sure sign that they are Chelsea Tractors.

My last car was a Zafira, which I used to take to work, while the wife stayed at home with two children and her 2 door Astra Coupe. Seemed a little odd to most folk, but she is stubborn about not needing a 'sensible' car just because we have two children. And in honesty as I tended to drive most of the time when we all went out, it meant no faffing around adjusting seats, mirrors and so on, but that we had the extra space for all the accessories you need to lug around with children.

Ooops, forgot to add the comment to the OP! As has been said, try to focus on the others that do give room, and remember that thankfully these clowns are the exception not the norm. (Easier said than done I know)

I have come across an L200 driver who gives me more room than a heck of a lot of drivers of other cars give. I always thank this driver.

There are half a dozen of those silly BMW's parked outside (and i use the word 'parked' loosley, abandoned is more appropriate) my sons school...why is it tiny women feel the need to have a car they require a stepladder to get in to??
I do drive a 7 seater, although the rear 2 seat are folded away most of the time, it was the only way i could get a car with rear sliding doors & enough boot space for #2's wheechair and the various other bits I have to haul round on a daily basis
