Bike crime is common in the Manchester area, for example, but isn't a priority for GMP. (Our local division do target it "unofficially", as they find that stolen bikes are often used by scrotes to commit other crimes). AFAIK (and I'm not a Police officer, or involved in Policing) priorities are set for forces and divisions that may not reflect the actual number of offences reported.

By all means DO report such incidents (I would, personally) but the response isn't necessarily proportionate to the number of incidents reported.

Pursue it, even if they didnt want you to fall off it was a possibility and the consequences are potentially grave, if nothing else, for me it would spoil my cycling, potentially put me off something I have come to really enjoy, broken bones, grazing, concussion, broken teeth due to someone "Having a laugh" would spoil it for me, make it difficult to justify to my family any more and it would be back in the tin box every day.

Tossers like this, that think you are there for their amusement, like a new slant on "Cow Tipping" are scum, they had the option to pass without doing anything but they didnt.

I someone does it to me, I have an epic memory for vehicles, reg, make, model, paint shade, any deviation from standard, distinguishing marks, cars are my "thing", I would be the best witness to a crime involving a car, I wouldnt say a Silver hatchback, I would say it was a 1999 Focus 1.6 LX in Stratos Silver, it had aftermarket alloy wheels, TSW Hockenheims, a sticker saying No Fear, aftermarket exhaust and the VRM was V123 ABC etc etc, assuming I got a decent look (not always the case, granted) but I would find it if the Police didnt.

There's absolutely no way the passenger could act like that without the complicity of the driver.

It's dangerous and it should be taken seriously. The shame of living in the UK is that it's unlikely to be unless this sort of stupidity results in death or serious injury, or the shouters pick the wrong person (as they did in this case).

I too had the same experience yesterday, I was riding down Lee Road and a Black Vauxhall Corsa came side by side and the passenger screamed at me like a little girl. I just cycled on and ignored them. I caught up with them, again the passenger scremead again as I went past and I just ignored them. The third time they came up the passenger didn't scream. At the time I didn't feel like re-acting or anything I just let them scream and make a fool of themselves!How do you guys deal with these idiots!

Think about if you'd like it done to yourself, your wife, your kids etc. and whether they'd react differently by falling off or whether their confidence riding would be affected. If people think this 'isn't that bad', would you do it to someone?

I don't think other posters would disagree that they need to be punished.

More so that the only reason the car driver will be sent a NIP is because the OP is a Police Officer. Where as if you or I (or other people that have posted on this thread) were to report an incident to the Police, then sweet FA would happen. Even though the Police have a public duty to investigate.

Agree 100%, and that's been my direct experience. If there's no physical evidence - and that means you spread all over the road like jam - then plod regard it as all in the game.

Err you are the opposite to me... I desperately try to remember the number plate, and colour but as to make and model - no it just doesn't register with me... more likely to notice another bike details and give a description of it - still wouldn't be acurate but I would pay more attention to it.
