My first road bike...

Whilst the title might sound a little Fisher Price, I'd like to think that my new bike isn't a toy.... having sorted the saddle and taken some proper pics at the weekend (when it wasn't lashing down with rain and blowing a gale), I thought I'd create this little photo-montage. At 1440x900 it's just the right size for my desktop wallpaper too

Actually, I thought the Crud Roadracer mkII mudguards weren't half as much of a faff to fit as I had read and thought they might be – yes, a bit fiddly because of the small parts, but all in all a relatively straightforward tool-free installation in about half an hour. They're very effective too.

Surprisingly, I found the Roadracers were stocked by Halfords, so it was easiest to pick them up locally. There was 20% off for reserving online, plus I also used my 10% British Cycling membership discount so ended up paying just over £21 (online price was £29.99, and in-store ticket price on the shelf was £34.99!!)

Well, I reckon given that it's like Winter around these parts at least 10 months of the year (who was it that said it never rains during commuting hours?! ), I opted for guards over a wet ar5e. Frankly, I don't think they detract from the look of the bike, and they're extremely lightweight compared to the SKS guards I have on my Flight, so I think they're worth it to be able to ride this beauty every day come rain or shine

Having said that I wimped out today in the 60mph winds.... the Clackmannanshire Bridge was no fun in 40mph gusts yesterday

I've not rode my bike for two days due to heavy rain and winds I don't commute I ride for fitness & pleasure I go in a low way If more than 3 days off the bike,This will be my first autumn/winter of regular committed cycling I think ill invest in the guards.

As mentioned elsewhere, I was fortunate that in this instance I was actually spending someone else's money... as a result I've ended up with more bike than I could have every afforded myself, and whilst it probably should be a Sunday best bike, I'm going to ride it every day

I only have room for two bikes, so once my Cube MTB and Ridgeback Flight are sold (on eBay right now, see Auctions Forum), I'm planning on replacing them with something in-between the two – i.e. not as fast as the Flight or as chunky as the Cube. This N+1-2+1 bike will more than likely become the bike that gets used for commuting in the coming months when the weather gets really foul (if that's even possible!?) and/or the ice and snow appear.
