Jeez.

Despite their protestations of having 1000 lines matching Tesco prices - I failed to find anything with less than a 20% surcharge on Asda prices.

Won't be going there again.

A tad expensive I admit but thier one redeeming feature is that they offer a free bike-hod trailer to get your shopping home in  . This has just come to my local branch and I am trying to find a excuse to hire one.

We find the higher prices of Waitrose help keep the Riffraff out and make the shopping experience far more pleasureable. Worth every penny.

Did EXACTLY the same when I went in

I did, however, go back after I ate the mushrooms that I'd bought.

I would never do a "big shop" there...Tescos were selling V8 vegetable juice for £1 when Waitrose were selling it at 50% more!!!

However they DO stock some "nicer than the average Linda McCartney fayre" veggie food, and some really nice luxuries - the thickly condensed apple cordial they sell is divine when mixed with 19p/1500ml Lidl sparkling spring water ice cold

Since my local branch is on the edge of town, it tends to be a monthly "payday weekend" visit for a few very nice treats.

Local branch? Have you bothered looking how many waitroses are actually in the north of england...

We only got that one because the barstewards at the competition commission intervened.

There's one opened in Wellington, and I found the same when I went there to look at it. They need to provide second mortgages at the entrance.

Good quality plums and apricots though.

Ironically I had a a major argument with my son about Waitrose when it was announced that the Co-op was going to be bulldozed and replaced with a Waitrose. I argued that the local population would be given access to a greater variety of foods and he argued that the local population's choice would be reduced.

Waitrose's prices indicate, retrospectively, that my son was right. Folk could afford the Co-op's mildly elevated prices but Waitrose has blown tight budgets out of the water leaving locals with Netto and Aldi on their doorsteps and Sainsbury's up the road.

Having just eaten a few Waitrose plums I'd say they they were nice but matched by one's purchased at Leeds market.

They sent me vouchers to try their home delivery, and so I filled my on-line basket then Mr Summerdays looked over my shoulder and took half of it back out again on the grounds that it was much more than our normal shop. However it is nice to go there for treats plus they have about 12 cycle stands outside - which is the best I've seen outside a supermarket round here. And they are often fairly full, and its usually an interesting selection of bikes in the rack - rather than BSO full suspension bikes.

I think it will probably say something in the small print eg "Selected stores only".
Though Tesco's not a great supermarket to match, the amount of times I've been in Tesco and seen something on special offer
or reduced that is either much less than the advertised saving, exactly the same price, or even more expensive than the original price is unbelievable!

Some examples in the past year, Crispy Potatoes, price rise from 69p to 75p, marked on the shelve as "Was 79p" - they were never that price, my sister used to buy them weekly.

4 baking potatoes, half price at 62p with a fake was price of £1.34 or £1.35. But they were only 70p in the first place, a measly 8p saving, not the so called half price offer.
And countless other things, though I can't remember off the top of my head. There's also the Buy One Get One Free offers where the price has been put up just for the so called offer - and actually goes down again after the offer!
I only go in Tesco because it's just round the corner from where I live, but many times I've left empty handed in disgust at the false and illegal claims (which Trading Standards will not touch as they are the biggest supermarket - they've had loads of complaints, not just from me, plenty of other people, but they ignore them unless they are for a different supermarket) and gone home to get my bike to go to a supermarket out of my way.

I very much dobt the Sheffield Waitrose will have bike trailers....they have abysmal cycle parking facilities....any more than 3 bikes and either lock it up on a trolley railing in the middle of the car park to possibly get reversed into, or put it out of sight and attractive to thieves rouind the far side on the old defunct trolley parks from its days as a Safeway

Although I agree with Vernon's point about the Co-op (I'm guessing the competition commission were up to their usual tricks again) with regards waitrose the bike hire is apparently on their website, so no Sheffield.

However Portishead and Westbury Park have them (Bristol). It's listed within individual stores' details, however accurate they are. One of the stores in Cambridge has them. Witney has them. Gave up bothering to look after a while. Does seem a bit sluggish the deployment of these though, we've known about the scheme yonks.
