Apparently our hats aren't "Euro Norm"Never done a sportive but I didn't realise there was a dress code! I'm trying and failing to imagine what would get you disqualified. Mankini? Hi-vis?

@Moe - is it this one: Ripon Revolution
If so, it'll just be few bits; a gel, a bar, some wafer and a couple of sweets. Put them in the back pocket of your jersey or saddle bag.
Do they want to be there at maybe 6 to set up for a 7.30am start, then? These are commercial ventures and they don't usually ask the hired help. The timing isn't for the benefit of the riders either. It benefits the organiser somehow.
They wouldn't have to staff it to 11(aalthough I think it's debatable they could at up to £40 per rider). Just post the control closing time. The roads remain available.
It's not, cycling events have traditionally started early when the roads are quiet. Another reason is that spouses want their other halves home at a reasonable time on a Saturday or Sunday rather than being abandoned for the best part of the weekend.I'm not picking a fight. Just pointing out that the reasons suggested don't make sense. It's most likely about money.
