Hello all,

My fixie commuter brought locally off ebay for £5.53 paid £5.50 new paint job ( I found a tin of black paint in the shed ?) new grips, back brake, tyres and a new rear sprocket (more suitable gearing) brought it originally to try fixed gear riding. First try at stopping nearly sent me over the bars:biggrin: trying to indicate with only one brake and being fixed was very hard also !

Really is a one off, not bad though.
I found slowing down and indicating on a fixed easy, better to do no handed and use both hand to give big signals of where your going, using your legs to slow you down

Black house paint (oil based) found in the shed and a nice little brush found in the same place ! I've since got rid of this bike in order to make room for another Fixie more Rigid MTB ,Urban bikie thing me thinks.

Don't know what is best about this, the bike or the fact that you're in Dudley, I'm in Wolves as the name suggests and thought there were no other Black Country single speed / fixies (there are one or two in Birmingham but they don't count.....).

My own bike was also off ebay but cost about 50 quid I think, two or three years ago, will add a picture when I work out how to do digital photos. It is or was a 5 speed racer, 1980s vintage or even earlier, gears never worked properly anyway so I thought what the hell lets give this single speed a go - and it is brilliant, I'd never return to the geared rubbish now! Not brave enough for fixed though.

I'm in Finchfield, next to Bantock Park.

My eldest daughter was living till recently in the Northway - now moved in just down the road!

Do you know of any other single speeders in this area? "Wolvesbug" is actually the collective name for the club I belong to, less of a club in fact than a group of enthusiastic cyclists ranging from very experienced (tandems, recumbents, you name it) to complete amateurs. I'm somewhere in between but the only single speeder (they think I'm a bit strange and they may be right - but I love it!).

Next time we're out your way I'll let you know and you can join up (membership is free because we are desperate) plus we could drag them all along to the Beacon Hotel! My idea of a perfect place to stop and replenish the carbos.

Now all I need is a punchy strapline, an avatar and some knowledge of how to post photos and there'll be no stopping me....

Hello Mr Wolvesbug,

I can tell you how to post the thumbnail images but as regard to the larger ones that never seems to work for me I just end up with a url that you can click on to see the image ? If you wish to add small images, on the top line of the message box with starting with A/Veranda you will see a paper clip image, click on that . It will bring up a box (mange attachments) click on browse and navigate to your pictures, click on the one you want then upload.Once uploaded the picture will appear listed as current attachments. Hope that helps. I used to go out some times with the critical mas group in Wolves and end up going for a drink in the Combamere (I think that was the name of the pub?) As far as the Northway goes a lot of my friends lived down that way so I used to spend a hell of a lot of time down there, and used to go down there walking the dog with my Dad when it was all being built !

As regards fixed /single speed I am led to understand that there are a lot of riders using fixed for training in the Stourbridge club stourbridgecyclingclub.com.

Catch ya soon
