So, this was a bit of a shock but luckly I didn't get killed as I noticed just before the giant crack(s) became a nasty snap! Serisouly, there are several huge cracks in the frame which open right up under slight loading - I must have been seconds away from the frame snapping into two pieces and a very nasty accident.
Anyway, just been to the Specialized dealer who said they have a lifetime warranty (it's 3 years old) so they will assess the bike and decide if I can have a new frame under warranty.
I have done nothing wrong to this bike so assuming they replace the frame under warranty does anyone know how long this whole process will take as I'm now without a bike for daily commuting. Also, I don't really trust the shop to swap all the components over and it'd be a good chance to give everything a good clean so I'd like to do that myself - will the shop agree to that? I doubt it somehow!

My specialized cracked at the bb shell also, when I had my current frame replaced under warranty the shop wouldn't just send the frame for me to swap the parts over , they sent a carrier to pick up the bike and I had it back within 14 days.

...mine snapped at the top tube/seat tube junction. The shop has the bike and they said 'if' I get a replacement under warranty they will swap the parts over - however, I know that they'll do a crap job of it. I wouldn't usually go to this shop but it's the Specialized dealer for my city so no choice really. I didn't buy the bike from them - I wouldn't buy anything from them!!!!

I wonder if they're being cautious, simply not assuming anything until the manufacturers come to a conclusion.
My Bianchi cracked in a bad way between the downtube and the BB shell round the bottom...my LBS were guarded in their opinion which did make me nervous, but the new frame was forthcoming quite quickly.
