Nice looking bike though I know nothing about the make.

One question: you've got red tape on the brake levers - what's that for?

It's a close run thing, but I actually think your front dérailleur cable is in a worse state than mine! (Lost the end cap and the cable started to fray so I've wrapped a rubber band round it to stop it fraying more - when the next rainy day comes along I'll change it, honest...)

The tape is because I have got a lot of scratches on them and the metal has becaome quite sharp. So red wire tape gives me more grip in the wet and stops myself from getting cut.
The cable is very frayyed but I have never needed to change it. It didnt come with an endcap when I got it.

@ User, yes it is from Argos but they have stopped producing it now. Although I did see someone else with it about 2 years ago.

Nice bike. Those mechs are filthy. Run some fine scotch brite or wet and dry over the levers to take off any rough bits, and if done carefully will bring up a shine, and lessen the scratches.

If you can twist the cable back up again so it is less frayed, try putting some heat shrink over it. Works fine as a make-shift end cap, and won't come off if you pick the right size.

Cheers HovR, I think it's now beyond repair but I'll remember that for next time. I've got a replacement cable and some cable cutters lying on my living room table right now.

Buy a new cage. Get an Elite bottle cage.

Do you only take a drink on club runs ? Bit of advice, you need to drink about 500ml an hour of water - simple common sense. 35 miles plus I take an energy drink to replace essential salts and fluids as well as providing carbs.
