I took the plunge a couple of weeks ago and bought my own domain name and hosting and built my own website (with the help of Joomla!). Thought it was time I put some of my photos on my own site instead of relying on Flickr. Anyway, I'd be interested to see what people think, the link is:

www.tiltedimage.com

Cheers!

Pretty impressive snaps Mel
Did you take all of those yourself?

Good website. Clean, tidy, unfussy, easy to navigate and doesn't detract from the main reason for the site - the photo's.

10/10 .

Good website. 2 bits of constructive advice. Re-write the 'about me', it's a bit too 'keen amateur' rather than as professional as the rest of the site. Also, what about titling your pictures rather than just the camera file number. This would prompt people to think about the image and its use.

Cheers for suggestions, Crackle - good point re about me - as for the photos can't have their titles edited on the backend without stripping them out, re-naming them and re-uploading them so it's on my 'to do' list.

Mel.

Fair enough. Other than that, I'm with Longers and 'teef. In fact I'm just going to go back and look if I can pinch any ideas  Now bookmarked.

I have always loved your pics and often have a quick look at at your flikr link. Your photography has strength and leaves you thinking - excellent pics.

When I looked at the new website, I was left wanting more, some explanations and some comment and some more pics.

Commissions will imply people pics - happy snaps to put on the wall of the kids etc. If this is you, you might want to put some pics in to show you can do this type of photography. If not, I suggest your money will come from advertising pics. Once again, it might be worth considering doing some pics in this style.

Good luck - I loved the pics. Have you considered selling these pics.

Cheers Gavin! You've got a good point about people pics - i guess that's what I'd think if I was commissioning someone to shoot pics, too. Yep, I'm definitely wanting to move into selling (I've sold a few through Flickr and licensed a few for use by charities etc) but need to have a good think about the kind of prices I'd want to charge (especially in the current 'Economic Climate')

great stuff melvil. very different from my own (amateur) style, but could be a good source of inspiration

if i had time to photoshop my shots, i might have a few to show off.

i'll point some of my colleagues (in advertising) to your site just in case…

I'm not big on over-processed, or what you might call artistically manipulated images per se, but some of these are really nice. The Forth Rail bridge shot is nicely done, but I'm sure it would have been nice left as is too. That's a personal thing. What gear do you use? Also do you HDR / tone map? I should imagine so given the dynamic range in some of those shots, but you can never be sure
