I got chased down and berated by a Swiss knob head for not having a registration plate on my bike. That was circa 1987, did they do away with them since then?

Probably akin to the kind of thing some of us did when we were kids in the 60's - wedging bits of cardboard in-between the spokes to make motorbike noises!
