If you just want to make phone calls then one month's stand-by time and 22 hours of talk time give it a definite advantage over smartphones.

Nokia pulled out of hardware production years ago but 'feature phones' under the Nokia brand have existed for some time.

Microsoft made feature phones under the Nokia name recently, but announced it was pulling out of the feature phone market last year, hence Nokia has moved onto another company and the 3310 name revived with media hype.

They are really handy & cheap though! The battery on my iPhone cant be trusted while on long rides so I keep a Nokia 130 in my saddle bag for emergencies. Great battery, calls, texts, has snake and a torch.

The only downside was its only a 2.5G phone, so I was unable to use my Three network SIM (as they only use the 3G & 4G networks). But an Asda Mobile PAYG SIM at 4p/text & 8p/min solved that

HMD are "brand licensee" and Nokia get royalties.

Yeah, mulled it over as I'm getting jaded with being on a smartphone all day everyday but I need the email and whatsapp to hand at all times. Sadly.

Looks great. Unless you wish to use it in any of the growing list of countries that no longer uses the frequencies it needs (including the US, Canada and many more).

Of course an unusable phone will have a very long battery life.

Yeah, I tossed a couple of old Nokias in oz because they turned off the 2G network in December.

Not being able to find a signal would shorten the standby time, as searching for a network uses more power than just staying connected. But talk time will be very long

As I understand it (happy to be wrong on this point) HMD are using the Nokia brand to market some run of the mill Android phones. And this "relaunch" is a bit of a publicity stunt as much as anything. And it seems to have been pretty darn successful so far.

I still have my old 3310. Mum uses it has "her" phone when she's out and about. I also have a 6230i, but the battery's a bit iffy on it.

That seems a bit odd because I thought 2G used much less power - and isn't that a good thing? It still bugs me that I must flip down the drawer from the top of the screen and tap the 2G/3G switcher manually before using data or making a short call and off again after, else the phone uses up its charge much quicker (it'll go 3 days on standby on 2G, less than 2 on 3G). Why isn't smart network selection a basic option on phone operating systems yet?

Didn't the mobile networks grumble about how the London Olympics Road Races should have used 2G for the on-course tracking too, or am I misremembering that? That said, it did seem a complete misjudgement of the capacity needed as phone networks crumbled as the spectators tried to use them - I took a radio to Richmond Park and had quite the crowd around me, even though the BBC were working out the time gaps by things like standing on a table near the top of Box Hill with a stopwatch, thanks to the aforementioned tracking collapse.
