I saw this from a distance for the first time last year and was confused: why hadn’t I seen it before (as I’m often in that area) and what were the Neoliths doing erecting a menhir on a flood plain?
Answer: It’s probably only recently been quarried and shaped – and put in place to adorn someone’s little fishing lake. I guess the alternative is that it really was a menhir and it’s been moved. I was told over 30 years ago that that brings bad luck. Thinking about it, people have probably been saying that for over 4000 years…
