Just wondering if anyone's replaced their sofa cushions and where they got it done at.

Mine are torn and crumbling but the sofa itself is OK. Is there anywhere one can get cushions cut to specified sizes and covered?

I know google is my friend but i'm I'm looking for recommendations... decent quality cushions and decent prices for a bespoke product.

Thanks

Try your local independent upholsterer/purveyor of soft furnishings :okay:

Depending on he quality of the sofa, these people are great, not cheap, but very good.

Declaration of interest: A friend worked for them and I Umpired the company cricket match one year 40 years ago and took great delight in giving the Chairman out "Plumb, LBW!"

We made the mistake of baulking at the £3000 quoted by Plumbs to completely reupholster our two good sofas and armchair.

Instead we opted to buy two new sofas from M&S.........regret this decision every evening.

If you have quality sofas you are happy with then get them reupholstered. You won’t regret it.

Use a local upholsterer but ask for 'sofa recovery' rather than reupholstery.

This entails rebuilding the sofa with new foam. You can opt to do just the cushions or the whole frame and they have a variety of foam depending on your firmness preference.

Reupholstery just does the cloth covering.

I've had mine refurbished twice in its lifetime (26 years) by the original manufacturer - Delcor. Costs a fortune compared to the cheap sofas that other people choose to buy - but they completely strip it down to its frame and rebuild with new fabrics & cushions. I don't think they refurbish sofas made by other manufacturers tho'

A big department/hardware outlet should have the foam which you can buy and cut to fit, fairly cheaply. The problem might be finding the material to match your sofa. If you can do that though, I'm sure any half decent shop that does either upholstery or dress making would be able to do it for you. Cushions tend to be square, and are easy to cover. IME I've found "specialist" places always charge relative to the cost of a new sofa, rather than relative to the time and materials put in.
