Seriously, on main roads, fair enough, but if you're cycling down very busy shopping streets in the centre of a tourist town you can't bomb about at 20mph and expect to never have to slow down. Just common sense says to go slowly in these areas, just the same as we expect motorists to do (and the vast majority do).
By steer clear I meant don't ride down areas like this. Either avoid or go slow.

I don't see any pedestrians. There are a bunch of zombies around though.

'Mystery Cyclist' would've had fun in Chester on Saturday. I made the mistake of riding in on a race day. It was like negotiating a 'herd' from the Walking Dead/Stupid

My family & I rode through Bath on Saturday and they could not believe how suicidally dozy the pedestrians were..we all took it slowly and carefully, but how we all got through without biffing into one I don't know !

In London dozy peds are pretty commonplace. Of course I negotiate with care but sometimes the ones that go to step out suddenly or move to attempt a run across benefit from a quick 'NO!'. Best for everyone :-)

Approaching busy ped crossings, especially those on a bend it's often worth a couple of friendly tings on the bell to let peds know you're there. Can be easy to miss seeing a cyclist. A classic is the turn off Aldwych heading up Kingsway- it's quite a sharp corner with a crossing right on it!

Often I'll complement a 'NO' or bell with a 'Sorry, thanks'. Very British.

I work at the junction of High Holborn and Kingsway - that turning is pretty bad. Nothing compares to the idiocy of Oxford Street between Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus though - the street combines being quite wide, straight, unimpeded run with pedestrians constantly stepping out without any kind of a glance down the road (frequently with headphones in too!).

Blimey, thats a hell of a head line

"Mystery cyclist who hides behind online pseudonym posts videos of pedestrians he thinks are in his way online as he shouts abuse at them to 'promote road safety'"

Punchy!
Thinly veiled vitriol, I'd say.
