I've just posted a lengthy ride report in my lard-buster blog.

As for nice scenery...

All taken on short local rides.

Nice! I see you have included a gratuitous bit of 'house porn' for us Southerners in picture three...absolute overcrowding!

Marin - that voyage to the North may well happen! I was only thinking about it yesterday when Sharky came swimming around in our cliquey 'London Rides Calendar', making a similar suggestion. Be a good day trip and I can transport six + their bikes in reasonable comfort. Early start, 100 for as long as it takes, packet of cheese and onion crisps washed down with a pint of lager or so*...hit the motorway and back South.

*I'm joking about the cheese and onion of course...

Off to Colin's blog now...

And was longers on the Tricross fixed - or was there common sense involved?

Just looked at your blog Colin - doing well eh? and more countryside. As I write, in London, Westminster Bridge is closed by protesters and commuting life is destined to be a misery for hundreds of cyclists today. Parliament Square is choc a block with police, dispensed in order to control those demonstrating for Sri Lankan freedom... Ah, the thrusting metropolis...

I can't remember what bike longers was on but I know it wasn't his fixed wheel bike. We were talking about braking on fixed using the legs and he said that he kept trying to do it and wondering why he wasn't slowing down!

Scrub that - I just took a look at the group photo - longers was on his geared Fondriest.

Yes, the weight is coming off steadily. That's a stone now in about 14 weeks so roughly a pound a week. I could do double that by trying harder but doing it this way feels easy and I'm not getting any hunger pangs. I still have the odd treat. Come the end of the summer I should be in good shape again, then it will just be a case of not getting fat next winter.

I don't know how you guys put up with big city life. I originally came from Coventry which only has a population of about 300,000 but even that feels really big, noisy and oppressive compared to where I'm living now. Hebden Bridge has a population of about 4,500 people.

Isn't Hebden Bridge full of lesbians? I'm sure someone told me that.
Well, given that I live here and I'm male and I'm by no means the only male in Hebden Bridge, it certainly isn't "full" of lesbians! Most heterosexual men round here seem to be able to find partners without having to go out of town. :becool:

There is a fairly large and obvious lesbian presence here. Observer article.

I wouldn't get too excited lads; they're clearly NOT the sort of "ladies in comfortable footwear" you might want to see trying on each other's shoes. If you know what I mean!

The body was that of a 20 year old woman and a 30 year old man has been arrested. Apparently her body had been dumped on moorland near Buckstones and was spotted by a hang glider pilot - Newspaper report.

Whoever thought it was a safe spot to dispose of the body there presumably didn't take into account the number of people who fly hang gliders or paragliders off the escarpment at Buckstones.
