It was a front for a spy organisation, or at least that's the only logical explanation I can think of. The window display was very tatty with stuff like Ever Ready lights on cardboard backing, chains from eons ago, that sort of thing. It was hardly ever open. I met someone once who had actually been in there. He'd noticed it was open so went in to buy something "just because". He only had a tenner and the shopkeeper didn't have change. He nipped down the road to bust his tenner in a sweet shop, but when he got back the spook shop was closed.
