With a bit of digging you can also work out a lot of unnamed suppliers to the big brands and buy direct for far cheaper. I have tracked down various items that are significantly cheaper when buying direct.

TBH, I do tend to sidestep the big brands, especially when it comes to food. I prefer to cook from scratch, and so largely buy fresh ingredients as opposed to ready made stuff. Can be from a supermarket, a local butcher, or even from a veg stall by the side of the road.

There are some exceptions. Like Dickinsons & Morris pork pies and Thompson's Irish breakfast tea.

As per my 'well made clothing' post above, I did treat myself to a pair of C&J for my wedding (still cost me considerably less than my wife's dress 😂). As a nice bit of good fortune, the pair I wanted were 'blemished' so I got a 20% discount on them. Not sure why C&J labelled them as such, they were absolutely pristine but I wasn't going to question it!

I've had a couple of pairs so labelled at maybe half price or less. The "blemish" amounted to what you'd get wearing them outside the first day!

I am the same, but have managed to track down a fair few 'luxury' items down the years. I love dried cherries on porridge and for desserts, my fave supermarket ones came out at something ridiculous like £30 a kilo when you totted up the 150g bags they sold them in. I found the original supplier and buy them at less than half that!

Yup, finding a bulk supplier always helps.

Also the "green bins" for damaged / end of line / clearance goods are a good source of more spendy items.

If you can afford it... (I can't)... Tea Pigs tea!

I stayed at an upmarket b&b a few years ago and they provided Tea Pigs tea for in-room cuppas. It was absolutely fantastic!

I've had them in the above-mentioned "green bins" a few times. Yes, lovely tea, but my gripe with them is that the bags are synthetic fabric and don't biodegrade.

They say that the actual bags ('temples') are made of plant starch, which does.

They say the inner bag is made of recyclable plastic.

That's new then, and I stand corrected. The last lot I had, I was furkling the fabric bags out of my otherwise well-rotted compost, but then I haven't picked up any on YS in a while.

Merrell trainers and walking boots.
I never give other brands a second look.
For beer it's Doom bar or nothing (glad it's only £2.10 in my local spoons)

Sorted through a lot of cycling clothes yesterday trying to get rid of stuff I no longer wear before deciding to get some new things before the summer.

I have decided there’s not much wrong with the stuff from Aldi so I’ll miss out on buying Castelli clothes this year.
