National anthem....

I've made myself very unpopular on many occasions (work dinners, awards dinners etc) for refusing to stand during the toast and anthem. My defence is always i dont belive in either of them, a queen or god... God save the queen, sheesh...

Got to agree with you, from pretty much all the anti-unionist Scottish that I know of, all seem to like to pick up on the tiniest faux offensive thing they can.

Though it seems as though the majority of Scotland don't really care either, since they repeatedly vote to stay as part of the union.

Though I do agree it's a bit dull, and would much prefer Rule Britannia, or Land of Hope and Glory.

REPEATEDLY We have had 1 referendum on Independence which we voted NO and 1 on Home Rule where we voted YES but where overruled by a Labour government over turn out.

The "God Save the Queen" song is a British anthem, so insulting a constituent part of GB might not be the best of ideas; one could almost be given to thinking that the country being insulted is not valued.

"Flower of Scotland" is Scottish anthem. GIRUY.

Of course that fourth verse only insults those who are rebellious.

I've got to stay out of this, as our national anthem is set to Anacreon in Heaven. Actually, it would be much better if our national anthem were set to Watkin's Ale. Easier to sing. Should be mention of bicycles in both national anthems. A shame Jerusalem was dropped from the Episcopal Hymnal in the States in 1984, the last time they revised it. That was a good'un, there.
