This week is National Blood Week. If you can donate blood will you?

I'm going on Wednesday after work at 5.45 for what will be my 57th pint

I can't ... but I would.

If you can, you should.

I used to whenever I could but haven't been for a few years mainly due to finding sessions cancelled when I went or not being well enough when there was one I could get to.

I used to like the organised ones at work, many, many years ago. An afternoon paid to be off work with tea and biscuits and a lie down while laughing at the boss fainting each time he saw blood.

I really really wanted to, but when I searched my local ones, they were all closed when I was free.

The other day, someone mentioned that we now have a 24-hour one, so will be looking into that.

I'm on me 47th, I think. Thereabouts anyway.

Not going in Blood week tho', I'm aiming to get around to doing some late-season time-trials. Giving blood makes me slow.

Not any more. I'm O- (the universal donor - so anyone can have my blood). You'd think the BTS would be keen, but no. Because in latter years I've travelled a bit for work, they always find an excuse for not wanting mine. Yellow fever, malaria, it's Thursday, maybe it'll rain next week......

Sorry - I did my bit, and I tried, but I only have so much patience....Beggars can't be choosers.....

I've never needed any myself I'm happy to say, but my parents donated regularly when I was young, and I can still remember sitting at the side of their beds while they were giving, so it was an easy decision for me once I was old enough.

I've had to skip quite a few years due to having tattoo's, but I'm back in the saddle now.

I understand a lot of people would like to donate but can't for medical reasons. I just struggle with those that can but won't!

I appreciate it can be frustrating if you want to donate but can't, but I suspect it's also very reassuring for others to know the BTS go to such levels to maintain the integrity of the service they provide.

I'd rather they refused me for what I deemed a piddling reason, (not suggesting this in your case), than take it to make me happy but in turn potentially jeopardise innocent people somewhere down the line.

As testing improves and evolves the requirements are regularly changing, so please try again in the future, you might be surprised.

Congratulations for the donations you gave

That's a disappointment andy - you seem like a dream donor.

They should be able to rule out malaria etc and should bend over backwards to welcome the likes of you who are willing to help.
