Gave blood last Thursday, donation number 45. We have a Bloodmobile, (mobile blood donation vehicle) that comes to my work twice a year so there is no excuse not to, but I am always surprised at the number of people who dont donate.

do you think its because people are scared of needles etc, or the possibility of fainting.

maybe there also needs to be a little more education regarding the useage of the blood. most people probably know someone who has or will need the service at one stage or another, maybe this needs to be highlighted more.

Booked in again for the 22nd, I kinda wish you could donate more frequently.

I used to give blood many years ago, even though I nearly passed out the first 3 times!(Feet up on a box, cold flannel on the forehead and a nurse fanning me with a piece of cardboard:laugh:) Then after a few years I got a letter asking me not to donate anymore as their tests had shown false reactions for the last 3 donations. They assured me that upon further testing there was nothing wrong with me, but after a reaction they couldn't use my blood.
Fast forward about 8 or 10 years and I received a letter saying that they have new tests now so would I donate again, which I have. So far, so good!

I went to give blood a couple of weeks back.
PLEASE NOTE: Always get there early cos the custard creams and jammy dodgers don't hang around for very long.

Likewise - they had club biscuits at my last session, but I was one of the first ones there! Came away with holes in both arms as she missed the vein the first time she tried, and they can only 'use' each arm once!
(Should have taken two choccie biccies!)

I can't seem to get an appointment anymore. Every time I try, there's no space. They say I can just turn up but as I once waited over an hour when I had an appointment, I don't really fancy just turning up.

Not this time around - I'm currently on 5 different medications for this chuffing illness (Docs are begining to suspect Menieres disease) and they get a bit sniffy about that, so it'll be next year now before I give my 10th pint.

GF and I are booked in on the 28th of Nov. It'll be my 60 somethingth (can't remember number). We book appointments but still have a wait and have always missed out on the choccy biccies as we go after work .
