I was nipping to town on Tuesday night & at the top of the rise into the next village is a pelican crossing, there was an old guy who was stood less than 15 feet from it wanting to cross the road

Are you suggesting he has somehow done wrong by wanting to cross the road wherever the hell he likes ?

Pashleys come with a good loud bell as standard and that generally works for me.
That said two chaps in front me on the prom last week weren't for moving so I got off and pushed the bike past them. Their wives were a bit in front and one said to me " They're not ignoring you, they're both deaf."

I have a playing card taped to the frame which each spoke catches & makes my bike sound like a Ferrari people are much amused when they think a Ferrari is being driven down the canal path
I saw a kid with a much louder version of this recently, he had a plastic drinks bottle jammed between the spokes and the chainstay.
