Need a cycle computer

My commute is 8.7 miles by car, however i use a cycle track which must add on miles as from time to time It leaves the road route. I need to get a cycle computer to work my mileage. Wonder how much longer I do In distance to the car?

Cateye tend to make good cycle computers and are widely available, but to be honest if you want basic functions, the Halford's ones are fine. Mrs FF's bike is using a Tesco computer and that works a treat too for a few bob!

I was thinking of the wireless cateye. Easy to fit?

don't know if 'she' is still on there, but there used to be a seller on ebay in the states 'geargurl'
I ended up getting a sigma bike computer from them. It's a wired one, but the computers easily unclippable. Its got a sensor on the from wheel for speed, mileage etc. one on the chainstay for cadence. Now I have the ability to see what my cadence is, I do tend to use it a lot.
Good thing was, very little diff in price between this and a basic computer from the uk.

BTW, its been on the bike over 3 years and still going fine

If you just want to know how long your journey is, have you tried gmaps pedometer? Use running mode mostly and switch to straight lines for any part of your journey that it doesn't recognise as a road. It's pretty accurate, I think
