Can't spell, Can't Punctuate....Sue Me
A new saddle - i'm finding that the charge spoon is ok for the first 20ish miles, but after that it's pretty lethal

What to get though

Saddles are a really difficult thing to recommend as one persons comfy sofa of a saddle will be anothers instrument of torture.

For what it's worth, I found the same with the Spoon: uncomfy after 20 miles, unbearable after 40 and it was preventing me from attempting longer rides. I took a risk on a Brooks B17 which isn't perfect and does take time to break in, but I was able to do my first century on it last summer.

For the knockabout bike I've gone for a Spa Nidd which is a copy of the B17. I've not done many miles yet (220 when writing this) but I already find it more comfy than the Spoon.

i have been looking at the brooks b17 and might take a punt on it - they are pretty sellable if it doesnt work out

They are indeed. Second hand ones always seem to sell really quickly when they are offered in the classifieds on here.

On the other hand you could be one of those annoying people who find it comfy straight out of the box.;)

I'm a long time B17 user. I bought a bike from Spa in Harrogate and got it with the default saddle, a Passport Navigator (reviewed here). The Spa guy said they were the cheapest decent saddle they could find and that most people ordered a different one, or fitted their own - which is what I intended to do. Anyway I've found that I actually prefer it to my B17, and it has stayed on the bike. At £18 you could give it a bash, although I don't expect it to last for a long time.

But as noted above, saddle preferences are so personal as to make my waffle pretty much meaningless.
