Hi, i need some advice about what to wear that might be a bit smarter than average....basically I already commute to work but generally wear lycra...which I like...but I have to get about a bit more at work (change of job etc.) and see this an an opportunity to use the bike a bit more.

So I need to have either something smarter that I can ride for in and arrive ready for a meetings. Or something that I can wrap up into a bag, wont look daft with bike shoes and wont get overly creased. Not worried about top half as I can always fold up a smartish t-shirt.

At the moment, I'm happy in the odd meeting in Lycra, but if it can sometime feel a little 'uncomfortable' if having a discussion at without a table in fornt of me....if you see what I mean and not nice to sit in for any length of time after being ridingin and then off to somewhere else....although maybe they might last a little bit less time if I go in sticking of sweat!

Anybody solved this or got any ideas? Much appreciated.

Crag Hoppers do some nice breathable short sleeve checked shirts and lightweight trousers, if you've got a TK Maxx by you they've always got them in.

Failing that, how about one of these:

how about find somewhere to stach a decent pair of black trousers and shoes at work.

Match that with a decent shirt with cuffs, maybe a tie, and your done.

Rohan do a lot of stuff that's technical fibres but looks smart - including jeans and a full travel suit that won't crunch, make you sweaty or anything else like that... Pretty expensive tho...

I have some cheap black acrylic crease proof trousers. So old I can't remember where I bought them. They look OK and retain their crease even if bundled into a saddle bag for a week. I can ride with them on if I need to look smart straight off the bike, just tuck them into your socks for riding. On top if you need to look smart with a tie then buy a suitable shirt in a mix of cotton and polyester, wear your tie slack to ride and your jacket open if you must have one, otherwise a merino top. Ride a bit slower than normal and you arrive without too much sweating.

How smart do you need?

I used to regularly do home visits and meetings in 3/4 trousers and a dulp-coloured non-tight cycling top. Spesh Sonoma cycle shoes and I just looked a bit casual.

Endura Hummvees are good full-length trousers, if they fit (sizing is a bit odd).

Need to be a bit smarter. not completely smart. Can't stash clothes all over the place as I don't always know people there or the site don't belong to us. I just need to be a bit more presentable at times than if I'm wearing tight clothes that I've ridden in for a few days.

These Hummvees are exactly the sort of thing I wanted. I've seen people in similar but didn't know what they were called. In what way is the sizing a wierd.

Many thanks.

What about those cotton trousers that the bottom part zips off and makes shorts? Sort of like Chinos?

You could get some of those and then you could zip the bottom half on when you got to the meeting - teamed with a normal t-shirt you would be okay for meetings I reckon.

I find that the only time I get proper sweaty is with a back pack - carry your stuff on the bike rather than on you and you will be okay I should think!

Something like this might be suitable shoe wise;

or

I've occassionally cycled in hiking trousers from the likes of millets to work (light and quick drying etc). I also have a pair of Endura Firefly trousers which are great;

Not got the Humvee trousers, but I do have the 3/4 length Humvees and they are brilliant.
