It's Sunday morning man. This sounds like Thursday afternoon stuff.

You can cut an existing Cat 6 cable and re-use it no problem. I ran a 15metre extension cable with RJ45 connectors on each end, clipped to the top of my skirting boards. If you get the right colour cable, its pretty unobtrusive and you forget it's there after a couple of days. You can get an RJ45 crimp tool for about £4 on ebay, and a network cable tester for a couple of quid. It's a doddle.

Edit: I used Cat 5e cable but I think that Cat 6 is pretty similar.
