Following on the the Geo question thread, I picked up this little beauty today. Just got back from my maiden voyage of 11 miles in windy conditions and overall very pleased. Should have done it sooner.

Apologies to the purists, but since the picture was taken I've changed the pedals for SPD, fitted my Brooks B17 and Carradice bag.

There are an awful lot of us who ride with 'mountain bike type' SPDs (as opposed to the official roadie version), as you would have seen in the photo of my bike in the Geo thread.

I 'd say that at least half the people that I have ridden with ride with SPDs.

I did try it out with the pedals already fitted as the bike came with shoes and cleats. It was interesting to compare the two types. Proper cycling shoes and Look Keo Classic pedals feel very secure compared to MTB shoes and SPD type pedals. That's not to say the SPDs are bad. They're not, but the larger cleat on the Keo feels more stable. That might be down to me having slightly rubbish MTB shoes, of course.

I had Look Deltas (pre-Keo type) on my CAAD5 but nearly face-planted after doing an emergency unclip on a 25% slope. I had come to a dead stop and the slippery plastic cleat caused my foot to slip from under me. I took a photo immediately afterwards...

I switched back to SPDs after that!

Like you, I did slightly prefer the Look system but SPDs are much safer in this kind of situation, and also better for walking around cafes and shops.

Totally agree. have to ask though - Why are you trying to ride up a cliff face? :-) All joking apart, that looks pretty steep! I live by the Suffolk/Norfolk border on the coast - we don't do hills round here.

Thanks. I'm really pleased. As I suspected, it was a sale or return bike for a friend of the bike shop owner who's had it from new, so it has a known history too. All the paperwork from new came with it, a Giro Ionos helmet with hard case, a pair of specialised BG Elite Road shoes, tool kit, co2 inflator and spare gas etc.

Nice one, I'm jealous. That bar tape won't last long but looks great.
Hope it's not a pressfit BB . Don't worry I'm sure it'll be fine.

Thanks. It is indeed the dreaded BB30, so it'll break/get noisy/whatever it feels like doing to cause a problem at some point no doubt. In the mean time, it's fine for now. I foresee a long lasting relationship with the LBS where I bought it. I may end up double wrapping the bars purely for comfort, although this one is nothing like as buzzy as the other road bike. Leagues apart in quality.

My winter bike has SPD pedals, I tend to stop more in the colder months for a coffee, it's easier with the SPD with recessed cleats.

Either way nice bike, I love white paint jobs.

Tesco used to have some kitchen wipes with bleach in them, worked great on the white bar tape on my cannondale... In fact the bike the OP has made me do a double take, it’s very similar to my synapse, exact same paint job...

Press fit bb30, hmmm, well that was a nice idea on paper I imagine. No big worry, just be prepared to take it down the lbs or buy the little press to DIY it.

It’s a lovely looking bike, but I suppose I’m duty bound to say that given the similarity lol!
