Right then looking to pick a few brains if you don't mind? I have a Carrera TDF which was my first bike had it for 3 months and now fell in love with cycling. Because the other half has seen how much I have enjoyed my new hobby she is giving me a little pocket money! In two weeks I can sell my TDF on eBay they go for about £220 ish and I can then put £500 to a new or second hand bike. This means I have a budget of about £720-£750 are there any bikes that stand out in that price range that I should go for new or second hand? Thoughts would be appreciated :-)

Why don't you keep the Carrera for a while,to see if you feel the same way when the summer ends.

Was thinking of keeping it, but explaining why I want a winter bike to may be a bit difficult to the boss

Take your TDF out in the pouring rain when the roads are covered in mud and grit and all sorts then show it to the OH and explain that's why you didn't take your new shiney bike out! spend that £500 on a triban for one reasonable nice weather bike and one winter hack.

Tdf's are only £250 new at the min so you may struggle to get more than £200 for it.
Tell the boss this and she may let you keep it until winter when the store price goes up and so does the second hand value??

I thought it was odd Sandra that on eBay they were still going for about £220. Think i might wait a little to sell then though.

Well Ebay has rules all of its own doesn't it? Who knows why people pay more for second hand ebay "bargains" than it would cost new in the shop -but they do.
They quite often go for £300 on there.

Well after a little thought and Luck my neighbour is selling his bike and he is upgrading. So I'm going to purchase his Cube Peleton that he bought early 2012 for a reasonable £375. Thought this was ideal as it moves me up the bikes slowly and I will look to upgrade again in the spring. Don't think I'll lose any money on that £375 as his bike is immaculate :-)
