So the brake pads supplied with the bike about 1,400 miles ago were feeling a bit underwhelming.

Thought I'd look into new pads which turned up this weekend.

Was very surprised to see my rears were so worn down. Another week and it would have been metal on metal.

Is this normal?

Depends upon how much you brake and you may be favouring your rear. My pads are fine after 6500 miles but then it's pretty flat where I live/cycle.

It's commuting miles. So lots of braking for traffic lights etc.

Plus I'm what you might call a 'big unit'.

It's just that compared to my old commuting bike, I didn't have change the pads in 4 years. I've only had this since about August last year.

Old pads now in the bin.

i like salmon cool stop. they seem to wear themselves and the rims less than fibrax, and have adequate stopping power in wet conditions.
