Hi,

new to disc brakes and my Boardman came with "Tektro Lyra mechanical road disc brakes". To be polite they are a heap of sh!te so was wondering if anyone could recommend an upgrade?

I use Avid BB7 on my CX team, very good.
TRP Spyre are apparently decent, but I have no experience of these

well my cx comp still has the lyras and the brakes are fine. in fairness, braking is no better in the dry than rim brakes, but much better in the wet.

changed both sets of pads after 9,000km of commuting.

mine just seems to have a real grinding noise and shudder when I brake. Tried adjusting them to no avail however.

+1 for Spyres. Dual piston, so none of that bending the disc to the stationary pad nonsense. Rode some for a weekend on a demo bike and was impressed. Would definitely consider these over hydraulic for anything longer than a weekend tour.
