Don't often get excited about a cycle lane, but a bit of paint has gone down on one of my commute routes.

Those in the area will know Anson Road (A34). The section from Mosley Road roundabout (nr Levenshulme) to the 2nd set of lights, now has a cycle lane painted on the Northbound carriageway.

Now, normally this 400 yard section is 2 abreast with vehicles jostling to filter into one lane as the roundabout is 2 lanes into Anson Road. For a cyclist this bit is a bit of a mare - filtering has to be done either on the pavement or down the outside of the traffic in the wrong lane...... (I choose the latter). Not yet ridden down this new layout in rush hour (have done around midday) so this should be entertaining - will the drivers notice it ?, as it reduces the road to only 1 lane now......

That said, should speed up that section of my commute when I head into Manchester.

Regardles of whether it has a solid or a dashed line, motorists will ignore it and occupy the space.

Rode down it this morning - certainly helped, motorists kept out of it, but there was a guy on a big motorbike using it to undertake the traffic for over a mile.

I made a concerted effort to chase him after he weaved round two cyclists in the cycle lane. Whizzed up behind him, slammed the anchors on and shouted "Hurry up.... efing MOVE".... he moved over........, and as I passed him I said...."Get out of the efing cycle lane'........heh heh

He then decided to do the proper thing and filter on the right.

I didn't do cyclist/motorbiker relations any good but he was riding like a tool

He has a tax disc with Bicycle written on it, perhaps that entitles him to ride in a lane desgnated for bicycles ? ;)

It goes from the lights at Blockbuster, so that first bit 100 yards from the roundabout to Blockbuster is still chocca, but the knock on is that the queue's are all down the A34 dual carriageway - I just whizz up the bus lane to the double roundabouts.

The stretch of road from the double roundabouts to plymouth grove is horrible!!!
Most people I know nip down the A6 instead now as do I if I'm heading that way(in a car).

never understood the a34 , i used to use it to get to near macclesfield from the m60... fair enough.. but head into manch from there and it just seems to be a right mess.

tend to take princess park way or palatine rd / oxford rd instead tbh.

[ in the car ;) ]
