Evening all!
I am thinking about changing my crappy, squeeking suspension forks for some rigid one on my hardtail, commuting mtb.
I was just wondering if anyone could give me a hand with what to look out for?
Are there different lengths and widths etc that I need to be measuring first? And also, what is a headset and will I need a new one for new forks?

Cheers for any help!

I recently fitted a pair of these to my girlfriend's mtb, very nice, and very light

Although there are many cheaper ones around.

I assume you have an A-Headset (the top of the fork steerer has no thread) and most likely the diameter of the fork steerer is 1"1/8 (best o check), you need the same on you new forks, you can reuse the old headset, maybe worth replacing the bearings whil the forks are off. The Axle to fork crown height is also important, you will see the Nuke Proof ones are 445mm. Also check the type of brake mount you need, disc or V, and if disc, IS or post mount.

Axle to Crown length is essential to get right. (425mm fit 80mm travel forks)

also steerer tube diameter ; usually 1 1/8" but older ones might be 1"
