I had a full hip replacement on the 25th of July and this week I have been out cycling, the first time I have been able in 18 years. The old arthritic hip was hell and I had little movement so had to sell my bikes. What inspired me following the operation was the possibility of cycling again. As soon as I was able I was on the excersise bike then picked up an old mountain bike from the 1990,s, fitted new road tyres and tubes, greased and oiled it up and I have not looked back. My kids are 13 and 9 and this morning we all went out for 2 hours and they abso
utely loved it. Next project is to save up for a road bike to experience the difference and advances in bike technology. The new ceramic hip is brilliant and I am totally pain free. 50 years old and looking forward to my renewed cycling adventures

I had a hip replaced a few years ago and, like you, was able to get back into cycling.

However, don't do as I did and think the cycling will replace the recommended physiotherapy exercises.

Spinning pedals will do the hip no harm, but it won't do it any good either, from a rehabilitation point of view.

You still need to do the exercises which involve moving your leg sideways.
