And that in a nutshell is why the rebrand and the attempt to push the brand way up market is necessary.

Going upmarket might not be bad, if they can sell them.

Unfortunately theyve designed a car for a very specific market, the young "big tech CEO."

The problem there is threefold;

1. There arent that many of them. Even if every big tech CEO brought one to the exclusion of all else there probably arent enough of them to sustain a brand on their own.

2. Their odd marketing hasn't made any friends, even among the very big tech CEO's theyre aiming for. Musk (who's a prat, but thats by the by) claimed to be puzzled as to what one particular ad, which featured no cars whatsoever, was even supposed to be promoting. "Do you even sell cars?" he asked, and maybe he had a point.

3. Let's be frank, it looks like a haemorrhoid.

Jaguar have a long and proud history of dropping clangers, and this looks little different, maybe even existential?

They wanted to be "bold and disruptive". Well, theyve done that alright and the initial reception is lukewarm to say the least. Perhaps being cunning and confirming might be more profitable?

Volvo, who seem to want to actually want to make money, took a different tack and now can't make enough £125k cars to keep up with worldwide demand. Perhaps learning the hard-won lessons of others who have gone before them with great success would have been better than wasting time, money and effort re-branding themselves a JaGUar? (I kid ye not)

Alienating what little customer base they had left is a grave error. Mark my words, this isn't going to end well.

That's one reason why I have a tiny family 'pool' car.

living in Oxford we have a pool car, shared by myself, my wife and son. Cheap to run and fits in any parking space. Brilliant second car, all you need.

I've nothing against electrics or big ICE's, both can be fun. I've also no objection to design innovation or heritage design, everything has their market.
But that thing is bloody awful, it's neither innovative or heritive (is that a real word?) just another 'me too' electric vehicle design.

I tend to agree with you. I just hope we are wrong .
