New Macbook or Pro?

My white macbook has started to die, it keeps switching off and I've asked the IT guy who provides support for our office and he says it's more than likely a logic board issue which would cost £400+ to fix. He recommended that a new notebook would be the way to go.

So, my choices are the bog-standard Macbook or the 13" Macbook Pro. I'm in favour of the MbP, mainly due to the fact that we had an inner and outer casing replaced under warranty (well, 2 years after the warranty ran out) so I'm leaning towards the aluminium unibody. I know that the new white Mb's are unibody construction too, but aesthetically the MbP has it for me. Any tips on how I convince SWMBO that it's worth the extra? I think she's part way there to be honest, but if anyone's got any advice on whether the MbP is worth the extra over the white Mb then I'd appreciate it.

Tell her it will match the furniture better (Truth!).

Tell her its cheaper than your last bike?  IIRC the Pro has a backlit keyboard, which is useful if you are using it in low light situations.

Ended up going for a look at PC World last night and SWMBO was convinced that the Pro was worth it when viewed next to the whitebook.

Came home and ordered one online cheaper

2Loose/Shaun - you may well laugh, but that was a serious comment from the OH!!!!

UncleMort - the SD slot and firewire were both things I wanted - it's got a 250gig HD in it, which will be plenty as our old Macbook only has 80!

Thanks for all the comments!

No laughing here, my OH made me spend £90 on a new PC case because the old one didn't match the desk ffs.
These things are important to them apparently, which is why I suggested it

Sounds reasonable!

I'm still trying to work out how to smuggle one of the semi-redundant G5's out of work and into home, along with a 22" apple display. Not sure either work, nor home would be pleased.

My wife is in a similar situation. She has had the macbook for over three years and has gone through a HHD replacement and had extra RAM added however the battery has died and can only be used with direct mains. I am favouring the pro if she gets one as a new macbook standard one wont be an upgrade but the pro is slightly better and does look cool too.

Pro ordered evening of the 10th but it's still not arrived. It's currently stuck in UPS's Preston depot. Totally gutted, just hope it arrives before we go away for Christmas next week!

If anyone's thinking of buying one, I'd suggest that you go to a store rather than order online.

Ended up cancelling the order and going to Comet in the end - Couldn't get a delivery date and Comet are doing £50 off at the moment (reserve & collect) so picked one up after work. Apple were great about it though - got through on the phone immediately and good customer service.
