My speed is deceptive I'm slower than I look
Finally after months of searching and a couple of disappointments I got my first fixed gear bike.
A converted Mercian frame
Got it off gumtree
The seller was a gent who gave me a great deal, and some good advice too.
Cleaned it up a bit oiled and tightened the chain etc etc
Tested it a bit
the neighbours probably think I'm nuts riding about the road in the rain but who cares .
Pics will follow soon

Woohoo

Looking forward to the pics. Enjoy !

That's a great looking frame - good find!

Not at all sure it goes with the modern stem, red rim and tyre however (at least to my eyes). Each to their own!

Nice bike.

Except.... that stem! Please, please, get a nice quill stem for it. Something like this maybe. That beautiful lugged frame is far too lovely to have a scaffolding clamp on it like that.

The red tyres and rim I can live with.

Thanks for the comments
The bike came this way, as I'm working to a tight budget the stem and tyres will need to wait till I've serviced the rear wheel and tightened the bottom bracket, the bar tape will need to go too. But they will and I will post pictures of the progress as it happens

Lovely bike.

Don't be dictated to by the style police.

I prefer quills too, but it's your bike not mine.

It must be a dream to ride.

If I weren't much too cool to care, I'd be extremely envious.
Thank you
It is great to ride, and so light, I bought it as a weekend fun bike but haven't been on anything else since buying it

As I said it came like this and I like the rear rim, so I won't be changing that but the stem will change and the red tyre in time, I plan on this being a slow rebuild but exactly to my liking

Beautiful frame. I'm a big Mercian fan. Do you know what model it is?
Thanks again
I don't know the model haven't a clue how to find out will ask the guy I bought it off, might give Mercian a ring!
If you have tips on idling it let me know

best way to id a mercian is to send them an e mail with a couple of pics and frame number and for a fee they should be able to provide a copy of the build sheet etc etc

Hi again Ive managed to make a couple of adjustments
A more traditional colour of handlebar tape, and.......
A genuine Brooks Saddle pre loved ^_^. I looked all morning in cycle shops for a traditional looking brown saddle to no avail, and tried a little known Bicycle workshop where I bagged a bargain, and some fantastic service!
I took it for a spin :bicycle: and the saddle is a delight. I know its not a racing saddle but it has bags of character and is so comfortable.
