It is new phone time  currently I use a blackberry 9700 and I love it, I use it for my business and I sync it with ACT 2010 so it acts like a mobile appointments book with all my customers contacts etc in it.

I was looking at upgrading it to either a 9780 or the 9800 torch but I thought I would see what people thought about an android phone, I was looking on the o2 site and I can have any phone on there and I saw the samsung galaxy S II but I know nothing about android phones so please tell me which is the best one and will it do everything I need it to do that my blackberry does i.e. appoinments and contact sync with ACT ( I can get companion sync to do that ) and show me my appointments without a lot of faffing about and does it do push email i.e. the emails come to the phone without having to check for them.

Thank you both for your replies unfortunately it doesnt really answer my questions.

While I can appreciate that the android phone maybe nice for multimedia etc that is not what I need it for, if I want to watch telly, videos and play games I have a very nice internet TV and an Xbox 360.

I use my phone for talking. appointments and email so I am more interested in the phones ability to use push email and sync with software like ACT than with how eastenders may look

At the moment I am looking at the new Blackberry 9900 that is coming out in the next couple of months as it does everything my 9700 does plus it has a touch screen and still retains the hardware keyboard.

Yes, you can sync Android phones to ACT! 2010.

Push email works fine with GMail.

Although I am biased as I loathe Blackberries.

Thank you for that I think you have confirmed what I suspected.

The one thing blackberries they do well is push email from any email account. It looks like with an android phone unless you use exchange or gmail or have an application checking your email at timed intervals you cant do push email, the blackberry can do push email from any email account as it uses external servers to check your email accounts and push them to your phone, I currently have 5 normal pop email accounts on mine and they all work push. While I can appreciate that blackberries are not very exciting and most people dont like them for me this is the killer application that makes it worth buying the phone for and is one reason why they are so popular as a business phone.

Push also works on Yahoo mail, for instance, and many other of the big names have launched apps.

I haven't tried any but you can also get apps to push from other mail accounts, such as Seven.

I have an HTC Android and a Blackberry. The BB is great for messaging and, IMO, better for email because of the keyboard, and the battery life is better. However, the Android is just fantastic as a mobile piece of IT, much better browsing, much better social integration, many more apps to do stuff that you wouldn't believe a phone can do. If it was my money, I would not choose a BB over an Android for my personal phone.

I think you have confirmed what I thought would be the case norm, I like the looks of the samsung galaxy S II and it does all these wonderful things but my phone is used for both business and personal as I am self employed and it has to be able to do what the blackberry can do which includes push email from any email account, and also I love having the keyboard as well and I can still watch iplayer on it if I want to just on a small screen.

I just wanted to confirm what all these different phones would and wouldnt do before I made my mind up but as it happens I now have to wait until the blackberry 9900 comes out in a couple of months anyway.

As Uncle Mort has put, I agree. You seem to want to be convinced to move away from the blackberry yet your head and comforts are sticking with it.

For email and business stuff then I think the bb is pretty tough to beat. My work force me to use one and it does have it's uses. However for personal use and flexibility my android phone (HTC Magic) is superior for generic uses. I am waiting for the contract to end which is soon so am eyeing up the galaxy s II.

I think you are right there, I thought I would see if anyone could persuade me to move to something else but it hasnt happened.

If I was after a phone just for personal use I would probably get the Samsung Galaxy S II it looks like a great phone, but it isnt for personal use and I dont want to start carrying 2 phones I already have a drawer full of phones I dont use as it is

Mind you I can remember a time when I would only ever buy Nokia phones but the N95 cured me of that, these days I wouldnt touch a Nokia with a bargpole so you never know.
