I had a look at that tent of yours bygone era.

It does look interesting but to be honest not the sort of tent I would want to go on a proper tour with - too cramped.

I have the feeling that you might now be thinking the same.

In case you think I am narrow minded, I can own up to having one of these truly minimalist things.

(read on hobbes before you blow a gasket

I haven't yet used it but I bought it for a specialist application - essentially long two-day rides with a furtive kip in between where I would at the moment use a bivi.

I figured I could put the ionosphere at the edge of open field and be near invisible unless being hunted by special forces.

My panniers and dry bags will be outside the tent - all waterproof.

I think your new tent is more suited to that sort of application.

If you are looking for a touring tent and are inclined to relax on weight I can wholeheartedly recommend the Robens Lodge 2.

Free standing - it does come with guy lines but I have never used them - even in the fag end of a serious storm/gale. I just peg it.

Two porches which is handy for storing stuff.

I have used it on campsites and free camping.

Other than the size issue, what did you think of the Soloist tent?

Im somewhat smaller and that is on my list, along with the Ordos.

its well made very light just over 1.2kgs the groundsheet feels very thin I would say if youre under 5ft10 it will make a great shelter how it would be in strong winds I don't know but its 95 pc freestanding the ordos 2 is bigger and only 100grams more and 208 cm long on the inner both well made tents but I think alpkit need to make longer versions of those 2 tents there must be lots of persons over 6ft tall then they would sell loads of them the 1 I returned sold again on the same day.

Cheers

Tell alpkit your thoughts they're are great bunch who take stuff onboard.

I grumbled about excess packaging a few months later theyd changed it.

Any early thoughts on the Hoolie 2? It seems a decent mix of space and weight and isn't too badly priced.

I ve not pitched it yet as im on holiday in Exmoor but will do at the weekend so I can see it comes in an oversize bag which is good and its also this years model the thing that swayed me was the 230cm space inside and 95cm inner height looked at the berghaus 3.2 but it was only 85cmhigh

Look forward to reports

Must admit not sure why "this year's model" is a feature.

You seem to have gone back up the weight scale to something not far far away from your original purchase (not a bad thing) but must admit to getting confused - have you started two separate threads called "new tent" or have I been breathing too much GT85?
