Hi everyone - been a lurker here for a while so figured it's time to contribute. I live in bristol and have two bikes: a Dawes discovery 301 hybrid that I use as my town bike and a Planet X Uncle John cyclocross bike for road riding, touring and light trails. I just got back from doing Glasgow- Inverness along ncn 7 which was amazing so am looking to do some more tours - maybe Iceland next summer

Actually it wasn't too bad, Pat - got delayed on the train on way up by floods in Carlisle, but in 6 days we only had 2 days of rain, the rest of the time was mostly dry and sometimes sunny - I even have the tan lines to prove it still glad I bought some sealskinz waterproof socks before heading off though!

Hello folks, long time lurker and, erm ... 3rd time poster now.

The more perceptive of you will guess that my name is Raymond. I live in North London and only took up cycling again last year after a 20 year break. I was never a super dedicated cyclist and just pottered about on an oversized BMX when I was a teenager.

I'm currently riding a Cannondale Quick 5 which suits me as a leisure cyclist and although I was tempted by drop bars the thought of hitting one of Haringey's many potholes on a bike with such thin wheels made me nervous so I went for the hybrid option instead. I recently did Le Tour de Waltham Forest, which is far less gruelling than it's French ancestor at only 16 miles but because I am the worlds worst navigator I managed 18.7.

Hello good people of cycle-chat My name is Gideon, I'm a 42 year old dad who commutes approx 14 miles a day to and from work (ironically in the car business) im Shropshire based and believe its an undiscovered gem. I have been commuting for around two years now along a scary 'A' road called the A49 (whitchurch-shrewsbury), and although truckers get bad press from the cycling community i have only experienced patience and good road manners from the truck driving fraternity, car drivers on the otherhand can give you a scare (especially when they are on-coming and choose to overtake another vehicle *insert hand gestures here*)....I cycle in all seasons and all weathers night and day although i do ask myself why when its thick fog outside. I have three bikes in my stable, an old Elswick green rusty 5 speed flat bar tourer (which i may restore), A carrera race ltd mountain bike for snow laiden days, and finnaly an old Giant Peleton 8400 sport i bought second hand and absolutely love!!
I have been flicking through your forum for about 2 weeks now and have enjoyed reading the articles on here so inevitably i now find myself becoming a member.

Hiya Gid,Yes the A.49 is in deed an interesting road to ride ! Rode most of it on my way down to Cornwall a few years back and like you say the truckers were good.I used to be in the dreaded motortrade aswell but jumped and am training for a new career in the countryside.

Hi everybody!

I'm an all-weather cycho, with a Scott hybrid I couldn't live without! (I almost cried when I had to have the chainset replaced by the bike shop because I couldn't do it myself and I watched them wheel it away).

Just started a refurb on a Raleigh 531 frame (completely stripped of everythingbut the paint!) so expect a lot of questions over the near future! I try to do all my own maintenance and enjoy nothing more than an afternoon in my Dad's garage getting covered in grease and bike-dirt (in-YOUR-endo!)

I've done my share of touring (outer Hebrides and Scotland) and reguarly spend my weekends doing the odd 30/60 miles from Nottingham.

I hope I can channel the experience and knowledge of the members on this group :-)
