Hi All,
I'm from South Wales, aged 41. And have just bought the first bike I have owned since my Raleigh Grifter over 25 years ago.

Looking to lose a bit of weight and eventually make use of the cycle trails of the Afan Valley on my doorstep.

After much deliberation I decided on a Carerra Vulcan after reading some positive reviews this bike has had.

Couple of (very short) rides in and so far so good!

43 myself, and looking to do exactly the same! I've gained a decent amount of weight after quitting smoking and I'm too young, and too old, to be sluggish. Walking has done wonders, but, I always enjoyed biking as a kid and want to find something my wife will enjoy with me...as well as something my 21 year old daredevil son and I can do together, too without killing ourselves!

There are beautiful man-made bike paths, as well as wooded bike trails here in CT...I used to take advantage of them as a younger man and intend to do the same now.

hello everyone,
I'm Mick from the Gateshead area of Northeast England.I used to be a keen mountain biker but kids, middle age and packing in smoking turned me into a big old unit. I've just bought a new bike to try and regain some of my former fitness and would appreciate some advice. I'll post on the beginners page later when I get time. Ijust thought I'd introduce myself.

Packing in smoking is tough but one of the best things I've ever done. Good luck with your cycling endeavours.

Hi, Newbie on here. Bought my first single speed bike, 83 Mercian, after years of road cycling. Loving it.
Kent hills being avoided though, keep forgetting the lack of gears to drop down on.

There is nothing wrong with a little bit of Kent hills, I'm just about to go and do 65 miles around Dover-Canterbury-Margate-Ramsgate-Dover.........

I am new member to this site and after a few visits without joining, I decided that I was bored with the forums I was linked to due to the bitterness and trolling which was getting to the point that mo subject could be posted without it. I hope to get some useful advice And develop my cycling career further from the current commuting into and through London and weekend blast through the countryside to a more sportive type of ride - I want to get to the stage where 100miles generates no fear. i also want to do more of my own maintenance. Currently riding a HKS Flite 100. Main thing I want to do over the next few weeks is get myself some new wheels built - or bought - get a new crankset fitted and possibly change my bars.

Hi, I got a "cheap" one from Halfords (other retailers are available!) Just so I didn't feel so bad if it didn't take off-the idea, not my bike!

to you all. So long as it has wheels and pedals that you have to push to go round by some part of your body thats all that required. Also a sense of humour and a willingness to share your triumphs and not so good moments with the forum will go down well.

Tea and cake are served regularly along with large doses of hilarity and mundane news every now and again.

Nice, which one did you go for? I have the road race, my tip would be to look after the gearing, and don't be afraid to complain to Halfords head office if it doesn't get fixed to your expectations
