Hi all,

I've been reading stuff on here for a while but just registered an account. Live in Camden, London and am a daily cyclist with some weekend riding which has been a bit restricted this year by the arrival of my first kid. I'm sure she'll prove worth it in the end ;-)

I've been following road cycling since I was a small child and got my first racing bike aged six due to having a cycling mad father. I've currently got a Condor Fratello, a Kona Paddy Wagon, and a Mercian King of Mercia which is sadly currently in pieces and needs a new bottom bracket and respray. One day I'll get that organised…

hi, I am having a moment of madness in that I am joining a forum that seems full of energetic and knowledgeable people where I could be exposed as an old fraud who occasionally climbs in the saddle and pedals like fury for five minutes and then needs three days, at least, to recover!! I bought a bike many moons ago, Elswick Stag, and after many years of on and off occasional riding thought I would like to get a different bike. Well, I purchased a second hand one from a dealer which seemed a good buy and I have no regrets except it was an import with the brakes the other way round, bit of a tester that for the first few rides!! What I would appreciate is any information regarding the frame. It is a bio racer "personal" with Durace cranks, brakes and gearing. It had a Regal Girardi saddle. With that level of accessories I assume the frame is "good" - the only labels being SYTU 878 Mannismann tubing on the forks and frame. Don't get much help from the web. Any information would be appreciated. Cheers

is it 'Mannismann' or 'Mannesmann'. The latter is a more likely (German) name and there is a steel company in Germany which does produce tubing (though no mention of cycling specific stuff). See http://www.salzgitter-mannesmann-stahlhandel.de/Produkte/Rohre/Rohre.htm

You won't be "exposed as an old fraud". We're just a bunch of people who love to cycle.

I can't advise on the bike frame. Try asking about it in the classic and vintage section (link) where they might know more. With the brakes, if they still bother you it should be possible to change the cables over so they're on the right levers. I had to do this on my folder.

Hi Phil, Thanks for response. I became accustomed to the brakes quite quickly and not a problem now. Will look into the c&v section and see what I can establish. I do know that Bio Racer did have a measurement system for bike frames in the 80's and assume it was one where the individual goes and has the frame made to measurements supplied from the system. I will persevere.

Obviously not only do I need new legs and lungs but new eyes. You're quite correct it is an 'e'. Will have a look at site.

I'm not sure that site will be much use. But Searching google for Mannesmann Fahhradrahmen returns a decent amount of discussions. I can't find anything in English and don't know what your German is like but I can have a read this evening if that'd help? I'm intrigued to find out what kind of quality tubing they make/made anyway.

I am still riding the compromise hybrid I bought when I started this addictive activity but know I need to finally do something about that.

Hi guys, newbie here I'm from Newcastle, recently got a 19" Ridgeback Rapide Speed SE from Start Cycles. The whole concept of bike speak is pretty intimidating to someone who never used to change gears on her bike, so hopefully I'll learn quickly.

Hi there, just signed up to the forum as Id seen some great posts and threads on here after googling a couple of things.

I cycle every day on my commute to work which involves a train and 10 miles each way.....I have a roadie and a folder and alternate between the two......I get out for the odd ride with mates on the roadie at the weekends too.

Hoping to get a bit more knowledge on bike mechanics as Id love to mod both bikes but am a bit of a newbie at that kind of thing!

Hi all,

just came across this forum whilst looking for info on The Cat & Fiddle Challenge from Rourkes Cycles in Stoke taking place on 13th October 2013. I have been road cycling since Easter 2012 after about 5 years of mountain biking. I miss the adrenaline rush of off roading but love the speed of road cycling and the distance you can cover in a short time. I have done several sportives in the local area and hoping to do more next year. Biggest ride so far 105 miles on The Dougie Mac. I tend to cycle with my local club in Uttoxeter staffs although we aren't an official club just yet, still in the throes of getting it set up and registered. Look forward to hearing from some of you. Stay safe and remember "it's not a race".
