Been looking and auction bidding a while but my pockets are empty:sad:

Just collected a Dawes Horizon I won last week for £100, it looked a bit scruffy in the pics but it is a 531 framed 2001 minter. The scruffy guards will be junked, black ones fitted along with new marathon plus's. For once in my life it looks like I have bought a bargain.;)

You probably ought to do before and after pics then.

I've already cleaned it, there will have to be just an after pic:smile:

Yes, that was the one, I forgot about the bid, I am so used to not winning. Cost me nowt to collect either as I had to go to Leicester this morning and the bike was only 20 mins away from there. Everything is fine apart from a little corrosion on the front rim, I'll look closer tomorrow, mismatched (already junked) guards and part perished tyres. Bargain!

Very nice indeed, just goes to show that there are still some bargains to be had on Ebay, as long as they're collection only and not in the south-east

That's always the way:smile: The £100 was my top bid, I was amazed to learn that I had won it.

It looks decent enough. I wonder why somebody would go to the trouble of buying a bike like that, only to flog it off.

When I bought a mint 1997 Dawes Horizon for £75 from a bike shop in 2005 the shop owner told me that tourers are deeply unfashionable and that many casual cyclists trade them in for more trendy modern looking machines less suited to everyday use.

Nope, Simon got it right. The guy was probably mid-40's like myself and had bought a sexy MTB for commuting:wacko:

His loss, your gain!

It's a very good point about tourers, I'd wait for a similar second-hand bargain if I weren't going to just hitch a trailer to the road bike.

I buy up any old tourers in good condition I can now if they are cheap enough. I just strip them for parts just as I did with the 1997 Horizon which had a frame which was too small for me.
