New Wheels Advice (Down to a choice of 3)

Hi All,

Sorry to post yet another new wheels thread, however I seek advice.

I'm currently looking for new wheels and narrowed it down to 3 or 4 wheelsets. The wheelsets are:

So it's between the Fulcrums, Shim's and Mavics. The budget is about £400. I currently do sportives and cycle with a club so nothing too competitive. I'm upgrading from the stock Aksium wheels on my Cube Agree GTC Race.

Do any of you think it may be worth stretching the budget to the Ksyrium Elite? I think they're at £470ish.

Any advice/thoughts welcome?

I replaced some Fulcrum 5s recently with the RS81 24s, excellent quality, light, understated and upped my average speed by 10%.

Good for climbing, seem pretty tough, I'm 82 KGS and have ridden some rough roads without any problem of trueness.

I paid £360 for these from Wiggle, don't think I would have paid full whack of over 500 though.

The Mavics look good but have seen some poor reviews.

I have a set of the Mavics and some Shimano RS11's with the same tyres/tubes, I go equally fast on both sets.

I have some Eastons at about 300 quid and some Dura Ace at 1300 (paid 800). A bit like wearing fancy clothes - I feel better but pulling power not substantially enhanced!

One of those things that will depend on the attributes of the wheels, what you are doing with them and how small the margins are etc eg in a hill climb where people are separated by fractions of a second, then you will likely go up a few places using the £300 vs the £100 wheels (provided you are paying for even slightly lighter wheels here, for the sake of the example). But you likely won't notice any difference on a commute or club run!

That's fine, I don't commute and I'm out with the club once or twice a week and then on my own for climb-ier rides. I would expect to feel an improvement over the stock Aksiums my bike came with on the climb-ier rides.

I think at that prove range they'll all feel similar, was just wondering if anyone had any experience?

Yes, just two weeks ago, ordered on Saturday received them on Wednesday.

I'm just in the mind set of flip flopping...1 minute it's "I must have new wheels" and the next it's "I'll wait till next year".

Just unsure about how much of an upgrade I'll feel over the stock Aksiums.

I recently got Compagolo Zonda with shimano hub and Jesus wept , its rolls faster than any wheel ive used before and is as rigid as you like!
