Quite a lot of 2014 higher end bikes being discounted down heavily, but they need to be a lot of the 2015 stuff is higher spec and 10\15% cheaper in some cases, which on high value models is a fair chunk of money, and obviously 22 speeds the norm now,as is full carbon not composite, and carbon steerer is now on bikes as low as £600! Stick to bike MANUFACTURERS like giant or merida to benefit from the latest carbon moulds,NOT THE MARKETING COMPANIES,sourcing frames from the far east using 10 year old mould,I won't name them its obvious to anybody who bothers to look at the frames!

You say stick to manufacturers like giant or merida and not marketing companies which i agree with but then you say full carbon is the norm and not composite.
giants composite is their take on carbon even up to their top of range defy advanced sl 0.

I agree I don't have a problem with composite from giant, but the word composite is a great way for the marketer's to introduce other materials into the composite, ie fibreglass..I personally like the merida set up,3 million bikes a year,50% for there own brand using exclusive closed moulds, and 50% on open moulds for other brands, across 77 countries, including specialised....and they offer lifetime guarantee on there own brand, not many can have that confidence in their frames, because they simply don't make anything!

I'm getting really itchy fingers to buy a new bike and I've finally got the money in place. Like most people though I want the most bang for my buck and really don't want to find that there is a quickfire sale knocking a chunk off. I'm looking at a road bike from cannondale or more likely specialized, 2015 model so not likely to be reduced much.

Any thoughts? Hang on for a fortnight just in case?

My experience is that there is always a deal to be had, you can torture yourself waiting for the ultimate bargain. But essentially these are wasted days! If you've got the dosh and inclination, shop around and find what you like.

Really? I cycle most winters and nothing that a bit of cleaning, and a spring basic service didn't cure... If all else fails new cabling is a few bob.. Or I suppose you could blow extra unnecessarily in the first place for fewer cables and still end up paying as much for services lol

This time of year, I'd get a bike with as little cable as possible. I've had enough winter bikes with grimy cables and slippery shifting come springtime. If I was spending the same, I'd go for the tech. I understand it's not for everyone though.
