Hi every one, I've been browsing the forum a lot recently and you all seem like a friendly bunch so I thought I'd sign up and say hello.

I am 26 and although I cycled a lot as a kid, I hadn't cycled in about 10 years until a couple of weeks ago. The irony that the Olympics was turning me into an even bigger couch potato was not lost upon me so I decided to dig my old bike out of the shed and fix it up. I have been bitten by the bug very badly and have been out on it at least once a day ever since. Not huge distances so far but I am building up gradually, going a bit further each day.

My bike is just an old Raleigh mountain bike which has seen better days so I have started to look at road bikes recently. The Triban 3 seems to be hugely popular on here so I may be headed to Decathlon sometime in the near future!

Welcome Neighbour.

Brilliant to hear that the bug has bitten you. Worcestershire is (IMHO) the best place for cycling in the country - big Evesham plain for flat stuff, but not far from Malvern and the Black Mountains for something more challenging. And lovely countryside and great towns/villages.

Welcome aboard,
Enjoy the forum, it's alright here.

Thanks a lot! Yep it certainly seems like a friendly helpful forum.

Thank you! It's good to see that people are happy to see beginners start out. I got a couple of smirks when I first started from other cyclists as if to say "look at that amateur on his crappy mountain bike" but by and large people have been great and I am really getting into it. Cycling in Worcestershire is great, right now I'm mainly cycling around the base of Bredon Hill which is quite hilly but is nice and quiet with very little traffic. As I grow in confidence and go further and further I will branch out more. Going to the Black Mountains would be fantastic!

Hello :welcome:

I still own my old Raleigh hybrid from 1990; rusty and passed it's best but it was a beauty in it's day.

Good luck with the increased distances, you'll be going on long treks before you know it

Hey :welcome: Haha those Raleigh bikes are sturdy eh? I reckon mine will outlast me!

Thanks, I'm still building up a little bit more, day by day. I will get there eventually!

The Triban 3 does look like it would fit the bill for me too if I can find the funds. I will keep plugging away on my old hybrid until next spring and then I will get a road bike of some sort.

I just got back from Decathlon in Birmingham with a shiny new Triban 3. The staff were very helpful when I went in yesterday but didn't have any 60cm models in stock. Fortunately a new load came in today so I've got one. I was actually looking at the Triban 5 but they only had 2 in my size in the entire country (in Glasgow) and weren't getting any more in stock until the 31st of October. These things really are selling like hot cakes.

When it's light tomorrow I will take some pics and post them on here.

Very jealous(-;
Look forward to the pictures.

Bredon Hill eh, not far from me. Very nice and quiet round there.

:hello:

Did you get to take the pictures?

Yep I did  I didn't take too many close-ups as there's other threads where people have photographed the gears, pedals etc in great detail on this bike. Just took a few photos for posterity - and before I get it too filthy!

Here they are (file sizes are a little large):
