Hi,

A little introduction to myself - I have always loved watching cycling - especially the 3 main ones, however, I have never been able to afford to actually take it up myself. I enter competitions left right and centre to try and win a bike but no such luck, however, I have decided this year I am going to buy a bike (Albeit an extremely cheap once!), even if it is 40 years old and rusting, I am going to do it just to allow me to finally get into it!

I am hoping some of you guys will know some inside places to try and find some cheap road bikes - I have found a few on the usual suspects, Ebay/Preloved, however, I can't seem to find very much.

If anybody knows some cheap places where I could find some to allow me to take up my passion properly then that would be great also any tips/advice on what to expect (Other than a lot of pain ;) )

Thanks,

James

What is your budget?

Maybe biggs862 on this site can help - specialises in retro steel roadbikes

Unfortunately my budget is small as i said, I really couldnt afford to go past £100, however, I would like to spend as little as possible really. I found a couple of decent cheapies on Ebay but unforyunately they were gone beforr I got chance to email them!

I will see if I can track down the person you mentioned and see whether they can help.

Thanks

Have you got a 'bike start' scheme near you? Hubby found a 56" steel Sun Solo road bike (c.1976) for £60 in good condition, all serviced and everything. Also somewhere like cycle recycle might be helpful too.

Hi,

I live in Peterborough.

How easy/hard is it to build a bike up? I have found a bike for sale for £45 which is a 1970s 5-speed road bike (Fully functioning). I am a hands on person, however, never with bikes so I wouldn't have a clue where to start, would I be better to buy a newer frame and then add parts to it as and when?

I will post in the classifieds as well to see if anybody is wanting to get rid of something which is taking up storage!

Thanks for all your help guys

Just had a quick look on ebay and there are plenty there in budget that will get you on the road. You could also try Gumtree or Swapz as people have bikes simply laying around and want next to nothing for them.
