Quick heads-up, as I'm running my series of events from Newby Wiske again this year, and in addition to the 100 km-anna-bit offroad-ish tour of the Moors and the 300 km tour of the Dales, Pennines and Howgills, there's a bonus one-off, never-to-be-repeated 100-mile offroadish tour of the Moors.

Don't Keep to the Road is the shortest ride, a tough loop of the Moors with plenty of offroad, a pub stop halfway round and a campervan control about three-quarters of the way round.

Moor Gravel Forever is the same loop as DKttR, with an extra loop above Eskdale out towards the coast and back through Fryupdale. Again, the campervan control in Bransdale breaks it up.

Both events have a generous minimum speed of 10 kph - nobody was pushing it last year.

Finally, Beyond the Dales We Know is a 300 km grand tour of the northern hills, with mostly commercial controls. All on-road.

There'll be a great welcome at Newby Wiske for all riders - last year, we ended up having a party with Belgian Beer Roulette until about 4 am. Basic camping's available at the start and finish, and free-ish, but cos my mate Mike is letting us use his farm as the base, I'll be waving a charity tin at any campers. Mike's nominated charity is the Alzheimer's Society.

Your entry fee includes breakfast (cereal and toast, if you're quick to get the toaster), and food at the finish. Last year, there was leek and potato soup, dhal soup, rice pud, and a cake mountain. This year Mike's threatening to get out the barbecue. I reckon it'll be a great atmosphere - it was last year.

Ah go on.
