And so was invented ‘scratching’?

We’d all been scratching records for decades before that. I forget when it became a virtue.

Not in my personal experience, a bunch of people upon hearing my set up have said "Where's the other speakers then" I dunno but have you ever owned one of Peter Walkers products.
Although I have heard a set of 'stacked' Electrostatics * (EL57's) in the proper frames driven by 4 QUAD 2 valve poweramps, sadly playing Classical music but a glorious sound.

* stacking electrostatic speakers (one pair inverted) gives an extra octave of bass response over a single pair.

It's English, Jim, but not as we know it.

I spose it is easy to take the pi55 out of something you don't understand and have no experience of, I feel sorry for you.

Ah, that's sweet. But really, your sympathies are misplaced. I have, among other things, a Pickering XSV 3000 needle-thingie. I do things like this with it. What do you do with yours?

Was a Trio automatic cut direct drive turntable not a bit naff though. Thought so the best ones were belt drive?

What heard at the time - from the osrt of people who knew

was that direct drive were better for one good reason

Belt drive were more expensive to make but were generally better because the belt took out any variations in speed and vibrations from the motor itself

Direct drive was cheaper to make and they could lob some electronics in to suppress the problems
but that also affected the sound to a tiny extent

but as that was still cheaper they spent a huge amount on advertising and convincing the media that they were better

so it ended up that for cheap turntables you were better off with belt drive
but if you had loads of money "remember him??) then the top direct drive were better
but they could have made better belt drive - but didn;t

I got a cheap belt drive
people I knew had direct drive that was FAR more expensive - and I couldn;t tell the difference
they said - and believed - that they could
