Surely that should be "Super Smug Red Light Jumping Lycra Loutish No RoadTax Cyclist"?

(I think I've covered most of the bases there - do let me know if I've forgotten anything!)

Pavement riding?

In North America, unless you are in some kind of "heritage location", I got the distinct impression that pavements were only for complete losers.
While on holiday in western Canada I soon became aware of tensions associated with driving as I was taken to various city centre locations. Will there be a parking place, why doesn't that ***** get out of my way etc.etc. After just a little research at the nearest shop I discovered there was an excellent local bus service which ran all day and late into the evening. This service was a lot less stressful than being a car passenger, I even persuaded my cousin and her husband to use the bus when we went out for a meal one evening. I asked the 20 something year old daughter of my cousin why she never used the bus, "Buses are for losers" she informed me, and she meant it..

That should actually cause some of the regular readers heads to explode.

I regularly have to go to Basel and Holland for work and love the public transport systems, i just wish we could do something similar here. The last bus on a Sunday on the fabled Busway in Cambs leaves Cambridge at 17.40! Even on a Saturday they stop running at 23.30 which is not even late enough for a cinema visit.

[QUOTE 2179003, member: 1314"]Someone called Eukster has just name-checked Lelly:

"The majority of motorists are just lazy. It's as simple as that. Agree with Lelly below. Raise the price of fuel and parking. Get people onto bikes. People will get fitter and will be less of a burden on the NHS. There are far too many cars on the road as it is. No car should be be driven for less then 2 miles. An easy walk for even the most unfit lazy motorist."

And on my 2 identical postings. Well, one post is minus 4, the other plus 10. Hilarious. Lelly's on plus 8.

I wonder who that is

If I can ride a (fully loaded touring) bike 1,400 miles around Germany, then there's no reason people cannot walk or cycle short distances.

They just don't want to, and hate being 'advised' to do it.
I'd go further than that and say most folk are simply bone idle lazy.

T'was a thing on our local telly recently, residents or other complaining about parking near their local school. That the school in question pre-dates the houses and any sensible house buyer would've thought of that is by-the-by.

Anyway, they interview some Waynetta type dropping off her brood and she says "I live 20 minutes walk away so I have to drive".

Says it all really.

Double the price of fuel sold for motor cars (not commercial vehicles) and we'll have a much fitter nation, and much less congestion, and doubtless a lot more moaning from those bloaters forced into exercise.
